Kitchen Flooring under $1,500

Any type of home improvement projects requires money. For instance, that kitchen flooring task you’ve always wanted to undertake could cost you thousands of dollars if you don’t plan ahead.

First of all, you need to choose what type of flooring you will be installing on your kitchen. There are lots of varieties available. Some of them are vinyl, wood laminates with pads, hardwood (either pre-finished or unfinished), tiles, and slate.

Pre-finished hardwood tends to be the easiest choice because upon installation, your floor will already be finished. If you are partial to hardwood but require a vast color option, you can opt for unfinished hardwood flooring since you can easily stain and seal these to match your current kitchen theme.

If you are hoping to use tiles or slate, plan a sub-floor installation of 1 to 1 ½” plywood to prevent your flooring from cracking. The sub-floor usually needs to be glued and screwed to the floor to achieve rigidity and eliminate any flex from the floor.

Another important thing to remember is that using wood laminates, hardwood and tile flooring raises your floor to a quarter of an inch or more. Make sure that you are aware of the rise on the floor height you that your kitchen appliances like dishwashers could still fit in the remaining allowable space.

Planning ahead includes researching on who you’ll hire to install the flooring. Take everything into consideration. Remember, you’ll be exchanging your time to save money so be diligent and meticulous.
